The morning of Saturday September 26th was lovely and sunny, we visited The Mill Garden Warwick which sits alongside the castle walls

On the afternoon we visited Avondale Nursery at Bagington nr Coventry. Avondale are well known for their Plant Heritage National Collections of Sanguisorba (Burnet) – over fifty listed in their catalogue, Symphyotrichum and Wood Anemone i.e. Anemone nemorosa cultivars. The majorityof the Sanguisorbas had finished flowering but I was attracted to a late flowering cultivar – S.’Raspberry Coulis’ growing to a metre in height with tight dark red flower heads. This was a most enjoyable visit with tea and biscuits as a bonus – I could have quite happily been locked in the garden and nursery at the end of the afternoon.
